Steven Edwards, DVM - Chirp Mentor

Dr. Steven Edwards graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013, where he completed a year of clinical rotations at Virginia Tech, as well as a veterinary behavior externship at the University of Pennsylvania, and a shelter medicine externship at Cornell University.

From 2013-2018, Dr. Edwards worked in general practices in New York City and Long Island. In 2017, he decided to further explore his long-standing passion in veterinary behavior. He started the Shirley Veterinary Hospital Behavior Service, where he saw the hospital’s behavior cases, as well as behavior cases from nearby practices on a referral basis.

But after 30 years of braving the cold in New York, Dr. Edwards finally decided it was time for warmer weather. So, in the spring of 2018, he moved to Clearwater, FL.

In Florida, Dr. Edwards provides general practice relief services to hospitals in the Tampa Bay region, and in-home veterinary behavior consultations to clients in the surrounding counties. He has taken extensive additional CE in veterinary behavior (well over 100 hours), and has over 2,000 hours of case experience with veterinary behavior consultations.

Since 2022, Dr. Edwards has served as president of AVSAB (the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior). He has been published in Veterinary Practice News, and featured on the radio show “Steve Dale’s Pet World”.

Dr. Edwards has always enjoyed teaching. In particular, he wants to help new (and not so new) veterinarians build their confidence. He knows it can be difficult to translate the knowledge and skills from school into clinical practice. Sometimes we all need a little bit of help. That might be working through a case from start to finish when we find ourselves completely lost… or sometimes it might just be needing a sounding board, someone to confirm that, “Yes, your plan is good.”

When not working, Dr. Edwards enjoys traveling, hiking, SCUBA diving, dancing Bachata, and learning Spanish (he’s getting there…).
