Kimberly Atkinson, DVM - Chirp Mentor

Dr. Kimberly Atkinson graduated from Washington State University with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree over 20 years ago. During her final year of medical school, she became a certified veterinary acupuncturist and has continue to enjoy and explore the benefits of integrative medicine. Since graduating, she has focused her life and career on bettering the lives of companion animals and strengthening the human-animal bond. Dr. Atkinson‘s background includes positions as Medical Director of an extremely busy hospital in Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY and a hospital in the Upper East side of Manhattan, Chief of Staff at a Connecticut hospital, emergency practitioner at hospitals in Texas, Connecticut, and New York, and lecturer of surgery at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago.

Dr. Atkinson practices integrative medicine, offering traditional modalities including vaccines, radiology, ultrasounds, dentistry, lab work, and all aspects of surgery, plus nutritional counseling, acupuncture, cold laser therapy, and stem cell therapy. She believes to completely treat a patient you must offer everything that can help them — the epitome of holistic medicine is to treat the whole patient. Dr. Atkinson doesn’t just treat dogs and cats; she sees everything from the littlest pocket pets to reptiles, and even pigs! As long as they are a pet, she treats them.

Currently at the HEAL Veterinary Hospital in Brooklyn, Dr. Atkinson, with her understanding of importance of the human-animal bond, provides a comforting and safe environment for both patients and clients alike. When it is time to help a patient cross the rainbow bridge, Dr. Atkinson performs end of life services in a quiet, relaxing atmosphere with all the comforts of home, because the last thing any pet deserves at the end of their life is to be on a cold, sterile exam table.

Living in downtown Brooklyn, Dr. Atkinson has two wonderful grown children, Justin, a biochemist, and Maddison, a film editor, in addition to a bevy of four legged family members: Laverne and Shirley, one-year-old Newfoundland puppies, Whit, an 18 year old DSH, and Radames, a two-year-old Sphynx. In her free time, (ha, that’s funny), she is building a house on the top of a mountain in the Blue Smoke Mountains, loves eating out and listening to live music, rides her bike, reads, and goes on road trips with the family.
