Chirp Mentor

Dr. Berit Fischer is a board certified specialist in Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia® who has been practicing veterinary medicine since 2001. In 2008, after completing her residency, she was one of only a handful of anesthesiologists to enter private referral practice, helping to break through barriers that had previously limited the anesthesia specialty to academic institutions. She has always had a drive to teach, and in 2013, she accepted a faculty position at the University of Illinois to fulfill her call to mentor rising students, interns, and residents. Her husband’s job brought her to the east coast in 2015 where she initially worked at the Animal Medical Center in New York City before accepting a position at Crown Veterinary Specialists where she currently practices.

Always a lifelong learner, Dr. Fischer became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner in 2010 and a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist in 2017. Integrating these skills with her specialization, she has since started a successful pain practice at Crown treating patients from the surrounding tri-state area.

Dr. Fischer’s interests include all things anesthesia, diagnosing and treating acute and chronic pain, and critical care. When not working, she enjoys kayaking, running, playing pickleball, and baking with her two daughters.

Being a teacher and mentor has always been one of Dr. Fischer’s strongest passions and she has always lived by the motto of “See one, do one, teach one”. She loves encouraging others to never stop learning as a way to pursue and achieve their goals.
